Born in Montella, Italy in 1939, Sal Caldarone came to the United States in 1954 and settled in Paterson, NJ. In 1960, he was hired by the Hiemer Studio in Clifton, where he was trained as stained glass artist. Some of the windows that he worked on can be seen in churches throughout the United States.

In 1967, he became a partner in a family owned business where he remained self employed for the next twenty five years, but continued his interest in art. In 1992, he sold his business in order to devote full time to painting.
Since 1992, he participated in yearly regional and national juried shows, winning many awards. This includes two Best In Show and four Grumbacher Gold Medallion awards.

In 1997, he was chosen as one of twelve finalists out of more than five hundred artist nationwide competing for the Grumbacher Hall of Fame Award. His work was featured in the 1997 Grumbacher calendar.

Sal's painting can also be found in numerous private collections throughout the United States and Europe. Although most of Sal's commissions are portraits, he likes to paint different subjects using various mediums, watercolor and oil being his preferred ones.

In 1997, Sal's lifelong dream came true with the construction of C & S Studio. The studio is located at 34 East Prospect St. in Waldwick, NJ, where Sal teaches art classes for children and adults.
